It amazes me...

It still amazes me all the emotions when a pet dies. I am most surprised by our dog Kayla. Ever since our cat Roscoe of 13 years died last Monday the 9th she has been scared, sad and shy. He died in our bathroom and Kayla seems to want to be in our bedroom near the bathroom. We had to bring her food to her as she wouldn't even come down to eat. We even ended up taking her to my mother in laws on fathers day because she ran out to the car and wouldn't get out. She wanted to be with us and basically refused to be left home alone.
Lauren talks everyday about missing him which is what we expected. Although she has started to work on her dad about another pet already.
Hailey on the other hand cracks us up daily and although we are sad about Roscoe, hearing her retell the story makes us laugh. Here is what she told me mom on the phone:
"Nana, guess what! When we were on our way back home the housesitter called and said, Roscoe puked really big, then went in the bathroom, laid down on the floor, stopped breathing....dead (yes just the one word dead not then he died). Then we got home and saw him, daddy tried to put him in a box but it didn't work so daddy put him in the freezer (it was 1am and the vet said put him in a bag in the fridge until morning) then daddy took him to the vet....gone (yes another one word liner)."
Ahh the words of 4 year olds who think they are 10!

I have been meaning to tell you how sorry I am about Roscoe. It always helps to have kids around to make you feel better.

It is hard to lose a furry part of your family. I always get comfort from this poem...
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
